You don’t have to travel far to get a taste of Scarborough’s talent.

Creative Visions, an arts show and sale at the Port Union Community Centre from Sept. 21 and 22 will allow artists to showcase their creativity to fellow admirers and artisans.

“There will be several different kinds of artwork displayed, ” said Glen Gabriel, the seniors program assistant. “Our art ranges from traditional, watercolour, drawings, paintings, sketches, and even forms of pottery, wood carvings, photography, and knitted goods.

“There are just so many different kinds of materials to see.”

Run by seniors, the show gets most of its submissions from the local community though some does come from the rest of the city.

Though the centre has several events geared towards seniors and children, the gallery is not limited to any age. There will also be an art section and three prizes for youths up to age 24. The artists’ reception will take place on Sept. 21 at 6 p.m.

“At the reception we will be rewarding youth winners, have a talk from a local artist, and many ‘celebrities’ will show up that evening to speak to the public,” Gabriel said.

The event has run since 2000, and is now in its eighth year. Gabriel, who has been involved for the past three years, says although youths are rewarded no one is showcased or pointed out in contrast to one another.

The event runs Sept. 21 and 22, Friday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Port Union Community Centre, 5450 Lawrence Ave. E. 416-396-4034.
