Varsity Blues feeling blue

The University of Toronto’s Varsity Blues football team broke a CIS record on Oct. 13 by losing its 48th straight game, thanks to a 44-1 loss to the Western Ontario Mustangs. That defeat beats the previous record of 47 set by the York University Lions.

East Scarborough ranks at Toronto District cross country

Woburn Collegiate’s Cara Thorne took gold at the Toronto District’s eastern district cross country meet on Oct. 15. The junior girl ran the 4,300 metre distance in 17:05:49, a minute ahead of Shannon Misketis of Birchmount Park. In midget boys competition, Mateo Peruzzi of Sir Oliver Mowat took the bronze behind a pair of Birchmount Park runners, covering the 4,800 metres in 19:48:44.

Panthers pounce at St. Joe’s Morrow Park

Candace Reventar and Emmy Luistro each scored 16 points to lead the Pope John Paul II Panthers to a 62-33 victory over St. Joe’s Morrow Park in the back end of a doubleheader on Oct. 17. In the other game, the junior Panthers had more of a battle, outlasting St. Joe’s 37-33.
