The 13th Paralympic Games proved to be lucky for east Scarborough’s Adam Lancia and Abdi Fatah Dini.

They brought home a silver medal in wheelchair basketball last week from Beijing.

Representing Canada and undefeated in seven games, their team was upset 72-60 by Australia.

Australia suffered one loss at the hands of the United States in the preliminary rounds.

Both Lancia and Fatah Dini were familiar with the Australians’ style of play, having met them twice in international competition before the final in Beijing.

Canada was victorious in both of those games, capturing the top spot in the Good Luck Beijing invitational and German Pre-Paralympic Test series tournaments.

This would be the third straight podium finish for both athletes, as they won gold in 2004 and 2000.

Lancia has been playing wheelchair basketball for 19 years. At the club level he represents the Scarborough-based Variety Village.

He is reportedly moving to Germany this fall to pursue his dream of playing in Europe.
