“The kindred spirit shows me that we are all one,” Ida Tong says, describing her new exhibit called Kindred Spirits.
Her new exhibit runs at The Bluffs Gallery at 1859 Kingston Rd. from March 5 to 31.
She paints abstract pieces using colours to represent emotions. Tong says the colours of objects have nothing to do with race and she wants people to realize this in her paintings. She believes art and colour unify people.
Tong says she has found herself spiritually through her artwork, after years of pursuing her passion for painting for 20 years. She graduated from the Ontario College of Art in 1991 and continued her education in Italy.
Her first exhibit was in 1991 in Toronto. She mostly displays her artwork in solo exhibits, however, she has done group ones as well. Tong will continue displaying her art at Cliffcrest Library in a solo exhibit in April and May.
In addition to being an artist and exhibitor, Tong also teaches art at the Canadian Academy of Art and Music, the Sunshine Art Centre, and the Toronto Board of Education. She is also a member of the Scarborough Arts Council.
Bluffs Gallery is open from Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be an opening reception for Tong’s exhibit on March 5 at 6 p.m.
This is a beautiful exhibit, not to be missed! Truly wonderful how Ida has expressed such a myriad of emotions with these paintings.
