Carlson and Posada suspended for basebrawl

Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Jesse Carlson and New York Yankees Jorge Posada have each been suspended three games for their part in Tuesday night’s brawl.

Carlson will also be fined $3,000 and teammate Rod Barajas will be docked $1,000 for their parts in the eighth inning brawl at the new Yankee Stadium.

The problems initially arose when Carlson threw behind Posada. The Yankee catcher stared down Carlson and could be seen saying “you don’t want to do this”. He was calmed down and later drew a walk.

After crossing the plate to score later in the inning, he brushed Carlson, who was covering at home. Jim Joyce immediately ejected Posada, who was being cursed at by Carlson.

Posada turned around and threw a punch at Carlson. The two wrestled to the ground as the benches and bullpens emptied.

That skirmish occurred after both Edwin Encarnacion and Aaron Hill were hit by Yankee pitchers earlier in the game.

The Blue Jays went on to win the game, 10-4.
