White sets stage for halfpipe semi’s

American Shaun White advanced to the finals with ease today after posting a score of 45.8 in his first run at the halfpipe qualifying on Cypress Mountain.

White will be joined by Aono Ryoh and Kokubo Kazuhiro of Japan, fellow American Louie Vito, Peetu Piroinen of Finland, and Iouri Podladtchikov of Switzerland in the finals.

Canadian Justin Lamoreux had a decent run and managed to advance to the semi finals.

The other Canadian’s in the field, Brad Martin and Jeff Batchelor, failed to advance.

White has been preparing a trick that has never been done in professional snowboard competition for the finals called the Double McTwist 1260.

It will be difficult for anyone to catch White who is favoured to repeat as the Olympic gold medal champion in the pipe.

Finals are set to start Wednesday at 10:15 p.m. ET.
