Birchmount Panthers maul Cedarbrae Colts to capture TDSB rugby crown

Brutal heat, brutal sport and the senior boys rugby squad from Birchmount Park Collegiate Institute wouldn’t have it any other way.

Under a withering sun the team of 16 to 18 year olds, coached by Chris Rhora, romped to a lopsided 22-10 victory over the Cedarbrae C.I. Colts Thursday afternoon at the Sunnybrook Park rugby pitch to capture the Toronto District School Board’s bragging rights for 2010.

The team now moves on to the OFSAA provincial championships being held in Oshawa between June 2-4.

Coach Rhora told The Toronto Observer that his Panthers will go all the way in the all-Ontario meet but can expect to meet up with bigger opponents.

“There are no easy teams there,” he said. “They’re all going to be tough. That’s rugby.”
