Dennis Rommendahl’s goal in the 61’ minute kept Denmark alive for a spot in the round of sixteen as they beat the Indomitable Lions 2-1 .
Rommendahl beat a Cameroon defender and then struck a ball just inside the right post to make Cameroon the first team to be eliminated from the tournament.
While scoring has not been at the premium in the World Cup, Cameroon and Denmark played an exciting game which any soccer fan can appreciate.
Samuel Eto’o got the scoring started at the 10’ minute mark after Denmark displayed some sloppy defense to give Cameroon an early lead.
The Danes countered in the 36’ when a Simon Kjaer beautifully placed lob eventually made it to Nicklas Bendtner in front and the game was tied, setting up a minute of fury on both ends.
Eto’o launched it off with a shot off the post, than the Danes came back with a opportunity of their own Cameroon defender Sebastien Bassong blocked what seemed to be a easy tap-in goal for the Danes.
Cameroon’s Achille Emana then decided to take matters into his own hands when he slipped by three defenders but was unable to get it past Thomas Sorensen.
Emana continued his stellar play in the second half but unfortunately the rest of his team was a no show offensively.
After the Rommendahl goal, the Danes locked down allowing just one quality chance from Emana which Sorensen stopped to solidify the win.
Coach Paul Le Guen said this was the best team the Lions have ever produced but untimely goals and inability to execute offensively led to the demise of Cameroon.
The Lions will finish up with the Netherlands on the 24th before watching the rest of the tournament from home.
Denmark will end the group stage against Japan, in a match to determine who will be the second team in the group to advance to the round of 16.
