Police urge attempted sex assault witness to come forward

Police are reaching out to the witness of an alleged attempted sexual assault in the Pape and Harcourt Avenues area last month.

On July 31 at about 11:30 p.m., a 16-year-old girl and her friend walking east on Harcourt were approached from behind by a man who tried to pull the girl to the ground, police say.

The girl escaped after fighting the attacker off.

Police say someone witnessed the alleged attack and followed the man to a vehicle.

Investigators are urging the witness to contact Det. Lisa Kurts at 416−808−7474 as soon as possible.

The suspect is described as 5-foot-9, between 20 and 30 years old, with a light-black complexion, a thin-to-medium build, and an Afro hairstyle tied back into a short, puffy ponytail. He was wearing a white T−shirt and light, washed-out blue jeans.

Police are asking anyone with information to call 416−808−7474 or contact Crime Stoppers at 416−222−TIPS (8477).
