Gerri Gershon was re-elected as Toronto District School Board (TDSB) trustee in Ward 13/Don Valley West in a landslide victory, with nearly 70 per cent (21,977) of the vote. Candidate Muhammad Shahid was a distant second with 30 per cent (9,782) support.
Gershon said the victory was no surprise to her.
“I know that I have a very good relationship with the parents and the people in my community, and I have for a long time,” she said.
Among her top priorities is implementing full-day kindergarten in the TDSB and pushing forward with plans to build a school in Thorncliffe Park, for kindergarten to Grade 3 students.
“It is going to be a set centre for excellence for early childhood education,” she said.
Gershon was first elected as a TDSB trustee in 1997.
