Police were called to a duplex on Laurel Drive near Midland Avenue and Danforth Road around 4 p.m. They found the suspect, whose name has not been released, barricaded inside.

The suspect allegedly stabbed his father, identified as Frank Duarte, and then locked himself inside the home until he was coaxed out.

“At some point, the suspect exited the home and at which point there was a confrontation,” Drummond said.

The suspect confronted police officers with a knife, prompting them to fire “at least one shot,” and the suspect was later taken to the hospital, according to SIU spokesperson Frank Phillips.

The SIU is called in to investigate when an incident with police involves death, serious injury, or sexual assault.
