Hospital to raise money in style

The Rouge Valley Health System (RVHS) is teaming up with Scarborough Town Centre (STC) to put on a heart-stopping fashion show.

The event is called “Heart of it all”, and it takes place at STC this Sunday. Proceeds raised from the show will go towards buying new echocardiogram machines for the cardiac ward at Centenary Hospital.

Roz Sagar-Lal, the community giving officer for RVHS says the partnership between the mall and the hospital could not be a better match.

“They [STC] are able to showcase their fashions to our patients – we deal with the same clientele,” Sagar-Lal said. “Some of our patients will be models in the show.”

Manager of special events, Maureen Dowhaniuk says they hope to raise $50,000 through this event and other events throughout the year. This amount of money will allow them to buy two new machines for the ward.

An echocardiogram is a machine that allows a 3D ultrasound to be taken of the heart. It detects signs of abnormal heart functions.

All proceeds from tickets purchased will go towards the “Heart of it all” campaign, and clothing will be donated to the show by participating retailers at STC. Tickets are $60 for one ticket or $100 for two tickets.
