Second annual Malvern women’s symposium

What: Malvern Family Resource Centre (MFRC) – Women’s Place will be hosting the 2nd Annual Women’s Symposium from 2:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. at Burrow’s Hall Community Centre, 1081 Progress Ave. (Progress and Sheppard), Scarborough. This event will have a combination of activities including workshops, an agency fair, and a keynote address from Dr. Roz Roach, founder and executive director of Dr. Roz’s Healing Place.

This year’s symposium was planned in partnership with the Malvern Women’s Advisory Network, a group of women that live and/or work in the Malvern neighbourhood. This year also brings a list of high profile women that will be facilitating workshops.

Stacey Mackenzie, Canadian model and former judge on Canada’s Next Top Model will be facilitating her well-received “Walk This Way” workshop.

Ellen Roseman, columnist with the Toronto Star will be conducting a workshop to empower women to take control of their personal finances.

“Yoga goddess” Zahra Haji will show women how they can be in tune with their bodies through yoga.

Other workshops will include “Effective Communication for Women” facilitated by Gloria Pierre, founder and president of “Clearly Speaking,” “Goal-Setting” with Niroma De Zoysa, certified and personal life coach, and an employment workshop facilitated by Marie Heron, executive director of On-Track Career and Employment Services.

Women’s Place is a department within MFRC which has provided quality programs and services to women of all ages. Operating as a community hub for women, Women’s Place offers information and referral services, self-help resources, volunteer opportunities, counselling, as well as other services.

In addition an agency fair will showcase the variety of programs and services available to women who live in the city.
