Abbotsford Heat 4 Toronto Marlies 2
The Marlies travelled to the west for the first time this season in their second game away from home.
Roman Horak earned his first hat trick as he scored three goals in a span of six minutes. The first one came on a power play with three seconds left in the opening period to tie it at one. He put in two more at the one and six minute mark of the second.
He now has 10 goals in nine games since the 2012-13 schedule started.
Toronto continued to struggle on its power play, going scoreless in three tries and allowing two on the penalty kill.
Mark Owuya began his first start of the season with a loss making 15 saves and Leland Irving had 25.
Rochester Americans 3 Hamilton Bulldogs 2 (SO)
The Bulldogs were scoreless for the majority of the competition until the third period when they came back to tie it at two against the No. 1 ranked team in the western conference.
Overtime didn’t solve anything but Brian Flynn, Phil Varone and Marcus Foligno all scored for the Americans in the shootout. Darryl Boyce was the only scorer for Hamilton in all four rounds as well as the tying goal.
Shots were pretty even as Hamiton’s Robert Mayer stopped 33 pucks while Rochester’s David
Leggio made 29 saves.
Portland Pirates 3 St. John’s IceCaps 0
Brendan Shinnimin scored one and earned two assists as Chad Johnson captures his second shutout in less than two weeks in front of their home crowd.
Chris Brown opened the scoring on a power play assisted by Michael Stone and Shinnimin.
Brown and Stone also received an assist on the third goal giving them both two points for the night.
St. John has lost two consecutive shutout games and has been scoreless for 131 minutes.
Saturday, Nov. 3:
Hamilton Bulldogs 4 Rochester Americans 3
In the second game of the home-and-home series, the Bulldogs managed to earn a victory in their own building.
Similar to Friday’s game, Hamilton was scoreless throughout the first two periods as Rochester’s Brian Flynn put in two points.
However, the Bulldogs came back with a four-goal burst midway through the final 20 minutes.
Blake Geoffrion put one up on the scoreboard for the home team and scored the winner at 15:01.
Connor Knapp made his AHL debut for Rochester in his first game as a professional hockey goalie and stopped 24 out of 27 shots.
St. John’s IceCaps 3 Worchester Sharks 2 (OT)
Newfoundland’s team finally ended its two-game scoreless streak with a win Saturday night.
The IceCaps outshot the Sharks by a large margin of 32-18.
Raymond Sawada earned two assists in the win and Paul Postma secured the win twelve seconds into overtime.
Worchester was leading 2-1 in the second period before John Albert tied it with a few seconds left in regulation.
St. John is back to .500 after the win.
Sunday, Nov. 4:
St. John’s IceCaps 0 Providence Bruins 3
Just when the IceCaps put a stop to their scoreless streak on Saturday, the Bruins sent St. John’s back in that category with a 3-0 win.
The first goal came 22 seconds in the opening period by Bobby Robins. Carter Camper scored the second on a power play and Lane MacDermind added the third.
Christian Hanson earned his first two assists of the season while Robins earned his first goal.
The IceCaps have now been shut out three times in four games as the Bruins more than doubled St. John’s shots with 38-18.
