On Feb. 16, Pickering-Scarborough East MP Corneliu Chisu announced a $53,550 grant from the federal Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund (CIIF) to expand the Scarborough landmark.

The centre has received an additional $51,600 from the Ontario Trillium Foundation.

According to Angela Chan, vice president of the CCC, renovation work will begin this spring.

Chisu said at a press conference in January that the government is committed to creating jobs, growth and long-term prosperity for Canadians by investing in communities.

“By improving facilities … we are helping to boost economic activity and maintain a high quality of life for residents of all ages,” Chisu said.

The CCC offers services to the Chinese-Canadian community and general outreach services such as Chinese language courses and Chinese culture workshops.

The centre, located at the corner of Sheppard Avenue and Progress Avenue, is one of the most technologically advanced cultural centres in North America.
