The NBA Big Tour is making its first stop in Scarborough on Sept. 28.

Saturday’s event at the Scarborough Town Centre comes at a time when the sport’s profile is on the rise, said Jonathan Chang, associate director of events and marketing at NBA Canada.

“Right now there is a lot of excitement about basketball in Canada, there is a greater familiarity with our stars,” he said. “Joel Anthony just won championships with the Miami Heat over the last two years. Steve Nash won two NBA MVP awards [in 2005 and 2006] and Anthony Bennett was drafted first overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers at the 2013 NBA Draft.”

The NBA Big Tour stop at Scarborough Town Centre is set to feature the Larry O’Brien Championship trophy, an appearance by former NBA star Clyde Drexler and interactive games for fans to play.

Other scheduled attractions include wheelchair basketball, and the Raptors dance pack and mascot. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
