Beware of driveway paving scams

Targets of fraud urged to contact police immediately

Police are urging the public to be wary of driveway paving scams.

Scammers approach residents identifying themselves as reputable pavement contractors, according to the Ontario Provincial Police, who have issued a release warning residents of the crime.

The crooks then arrange to do the work, the victim pays up front but the job is never finished.

Anyone who may have been a target of this scam is urged to contact their nearest police division immediately.

Fortunately, there have been no reports of such scams yet in Scarborough, according to Toronto Police 43 Divison’s fraud investigators.

In a statement via email, Toronto Police Media Relations Officer Victor Paul Kwong provides the following advice:

“For public safety, we always encourage people to obtain quotes from other vendors, research vendors, ask for references, and not to pay in cash.”
