A man has been arrested following reports of a suspicious incident on Oct. 20 at 11:50 a.m.
Police allege a man driving a 2007 silver, four-door Honda Civic westbound on Highway 401 near Neilson Road was outfitted with equipment commonly found in police vehicles.
The equipment included a two-way radio, mobile computer, emergency lighting and in-car camera. The man identified himself as a police officer to another driver, presenting police identification and a badge.
Michel Chartrand, 51, of Toronto was arrested later that day at approximately 1:20 p.m.
He is charged with impersonating a peace officer. He appeared in court Oct. 21 at College Park, 444 Yonge St.
Chartrand is described as white, 5-foot-10,195 lbs., with brown eyes, salt and pepper hair and a goatee.
Investigators are looking for individuals who may have had similar encounters with this man to come forward with any information.
According to a police press release, Toronto Police Services wishes to remind the public that when stopped, officers will be wearing a uniform and identifying themselves through photo identification and a badge.
