Fines up for driving while phoning

$280 for using electronic devices behind the wheel

Fines for Ontario motorists caught using electronic devices while driving are going up by more than $100, starting March 18.

The fine, including surcharges, will jump to $280 from the current amount of $155, according to a judicial order signed by Chief Justice Annemarie Bonkalo on Feb. 18.

This is the first time that there has been a fine increase since using electronic devices while driving was banned in 2009.
