About 50 people marked the “Global Day of Action”, a campaign held Feb. 27 in more than 30 countries, to call for the release of Al Jazeera journalists Peter Greste, Baher Mohamed and Mohamed Fahmy.
The three journalists are currently detained in Egypt on charges of fabricating news and being part of a terrorist organization.
The campaign was also to spread awareness across social media and promote freedom of the press.
As Toronto Observer’s Kimberly Aglipay reports, journalists and ordinary citizens gathered to show their support and to call on both the Egyptian and Canadian governments to step in and free the journalists, including a Canadian, Fahmy.
