Fewer than half of Canadian businesses online

Canadian Internet Registration Authority reseach finds only 41 per cent of small biz on the Internet

Looking for a Canadian business online? Finding it might be tough, especially if it’s small.

That’s according to the Canadian Internet Registration Authority (CIRA) 2014 Factbook, which says only 45.5 per cent of Canadian businesses have a website.

It’s even fewer when it comes to small businesses: 41 per cent of them are online.

The low numbers are likely hurting local industries and sending Canadian money to the U.S.

“Two out of every three dollars Canadians spend online go south of the border,” the CIRA says in a March 18 press release.

The CIRA found three-quarters of Canadians check online before buying a product.
