Star Wars sequel set 30 years after Episode VI

Movie series returns to settle the score from a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...

The fan-favourite R2D2 will return in the new Star Wars sequel, says Disney CEO and chairman Bob Iger.

Star Wars: Episode VII takes place 30 years after Return of the Jedi, which debuted in 1983.

Director J.J. Abrams begins filming this May, according to the studio.

Rumoured casting potentials include Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford, starring as Princess Leia, Luke Skywalker and Han Solo, respectively. However, none of this has either been confirmed or denied.

The announcement for the movie was first made in October 2012, but has been kept top secret until now.

Star Wars Episode VII is to be released Dec. 18, 2015.
