Three arrested in $1.6M fraud investigation

Charged for misappropriating funds from York University

Three York University employees have been arrested in connection to a $1.6 million fraud investigation.

The Toronto Police Service Financial Crimes unit charges the trio has been involved in the misappropriation of funds from York University between November 2005 and October 2012 through a fraudulent billing scheme.

Vittoria Caparello, 51, is charged with two counts of fraud over $5,000. Yossi Zaidfeld, 38, is charged with one count of fraud over $5,000. Melissa Caparello, 27, is charged with possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

All three are Vaughan residents.

Melissa Caparello is described as currently still employed by York University as an administrative assistant.

The investigation is ongoing and further arrests and charges are anticipated, police say.
