Man charged in bank thefts appears in court

Arrested after three robberies in Bloor West area

A 26-year-old man, arrested following four bank robberies, appeared in court on March 26.

Police say that three banks were robbed between March 5 and March 14 in the Bloor Street West area.

The fourth robbery was the mugging of an individual while the bank heist was in progress.

The man reportedly approached a bank teller with a knife and demanded cash.  When the teller hesitated, the bandit threatened to harm her. The man then ran towards Runnymede station.

“We believe he has been using the TTC to escape along the subway line,” staff inspector Mike Earl said.

Leonardo Peralta faces four counts of robbery.
