Two arrested in Markham grow-op bust

$1 million in marijuana seized, police say

Two Toronto men were arrested Sept. 9 in connection with an alleged marijuana grow-op in Markham.

York Region police executed a search warrant on a Markham home. According to police, the house on Carlton Road was empty, but police found over 1,100 plants. They estimate the street value of the seized drugs is around $1 million.

The house’s basement was set up with illegal wiring to steal electricity, police say.

Two men were later arrested at a home on Algoma Street in Toronto.

Tuan Minh Bui, 51, and Thi Hing Nguyen, 49, are charged with possession for the purposes of trafficking and theft of utilities, among other charges. They face bail hearings in Newmarket on Sept. 10.
