New 198 UofT Scarborough bus replaces 116E

Students and community excited for a quicker commute

Scarborough commuters have a brand new bus operating at Kennedy station to and from the University of Toronto Scarborough campus.

The bus, 198 UofT Scarborough Rocket, began operating Sept. 2, replacing the 116 Express bus. The new rocket bus will operate at peak periods throughout the day. The 198 route includes 12 stops, and operates every 10 minutes during the day and every 15 minutes in the evening. The bus ride is expected to take less than 25 minutes, as opposed to the old route, which ranged anywhere from 30-40 minutes depending on traffic.

“It is now much more convenient for students and community members to travel from UTSC to the Kennedy subway station,” said UTSC student, Glenda Fairbairn. “(Students) can access the downtown core much more frequently.”

Many residents and students took to twitter to express their gratitude for the new bus route.

“This is a much needed service improvement,” Fairbairn said. “It has made it easier for many people to access our campus.”
