Doug Ford kicked off his mayoral campaign by going door-to-door on Saturday.

The city councillor officially began his mayoral race by canvassing at his home ward of Etobicoke North three days after his brother Rob Ford was diagnosed with a rare type of cancer.

“I can’t wait to get out there,” Doug told a group of volunteers at his campaign headquarters. “I just spoke to Rob; he wants to thank the people of Toronto for their overwhelming support and all the thoughts and prayers everyone’s giving.”

Ford said he will be campaigning across all of the city wards until polls open for the Oct. 27 municipal elections.

“We’re going to convey a vision of continuing prosperity,” he said.

Ford also talked about current front-runner of the mayoral race John Tory, who was in Scarborough receiving endorsements by liberal MPs.

“We have the biggest endorsement and that’s the people of Scarborough,” he said. “We were standing out for the people of Scarborough when John Tory wasn’t anywhere to be found.”

Ford’s assisting his first mayoral debate Tuesday. The debate is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.at the York Memorial Collegiate Institute.
