A basement fire at Toronto City Hall forced people working in the building to evacuate Thursday.

The fire, which started around noon, left City Hall closed and without power for the rest of the day. City employees, however, were allowed back at around 4 p.m. to get their belongings.

Toronto Fire District Chief Greg Weeks said the fire originated in the building’s hydro vault room.
