CIBC’s Run for the Cure kicks off this Sunday

Breast cancer awareness event adds additional Toronto location this year

Participants register in a previous CIBC Run for the Cure event. This year's event takes place Oct. 5 with a new location added at the Toronto Zoo.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month in Canada, and it brings thousands of Canadians together to unite in their triumph over defeating and remembering those plagued by breast cancer.

The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation will be hosting events throughout the month to increase awareness and promote change.

One event, the CIBC’s Run for the Cure, is an annual race that brings together over 57,000 runners and walkers across 65 communities in Canada, including Toronto.  It takes place this Sunday, Oct. 5.

“For the last three years I’ve raised funds for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation as part of the Run for the Cure,” Josh Jensen, CIBC employee and runner, said. “It’s an important and very successful event that spreads awareness through advertising and word of mouth.”

An additional Toronto location was added this year in Scarborough at the Toronto Zoo, however the main race location is still at the University of Toronto St. George campus. Start time is 10 a.m.

Participants will pay $40 to register for the event. An additional cost will apply at the Toronto Zoo location. That additional cost goes towards a discounted admission to the Zoo.

Registration is still open for the event and can be completed online at www.cibcrunforthecure.com.
