Toronto Police make arrest in ministry of labour extortion investigation

Police believe there may be more victims

The Toronto Police have arrested a ministry of labour inspector after recieving a call for fraud in the area of Markham Rd. and McNicoll Ave.

According to a police report, the inspector was said to have completed a safety audit of a business, where he found a number of items that did not comply with safety laws. After the inspection, the owner was left with the cost to make necessary repairs.

The police received the complaint on Wednesday, June 25, 2014.

Police say that the inspector later returned to the business and requested money from the owner.

The Ontario Ministry of Labour prohibits inspectors from accepting money or commission for their services.
