Toronto boosts security after Thursday’s shooting at Parliament Hill

Police report security has been increased for TTC and GO Transit

After the shooting at Parliament Hill on Thursday, Toronto Police report they have increased security measures for the TTC and GO Transit.

Toronto’s lawmakers have been discussing safety measures for the province. The tight security was visible on Thursday as extra police and security guards were notably present on transit lines and around Toronto.

Go Transit and TTC say they began to increase their security measures due to threats made by the extremist group ISIS two weeks ago.

“We evaluated our response and went to what we call ‘enhanced vigilance,’” GO Transit security head Bill Grodzinski told CBC reporters.

The TTC has adopted the slogan “If you see something, say something,” to remind riders that they play a critical role in Toronto’s safety.

Toronto City Hall has implemented its own security measures, such as barricading the entrance so security can monitor crowds. According to officials, extra security will also be in place for the mayoral election on Monday.
