As of 8:15, Joe Cressy captured 38 of 70 polls, which gave him a 44 per cent lead over 22 rival candidates in Ward 20 Trinity/Spadina, including Sarah Thomson.

At 8:40, Cressy arrived at the RYZE night club near College and Bathurst streets accompanied with Ausma Malik, who was elected as the new School Trustee by the people of Trinity-Spadina.

An emotional Malik thanked a cheering audience for their faith in her.

“We decided the position of School Trustee is not something you can just coast into. It deserves the same loyalty, dedication and commitment as other positions,” Malik said amidst loud clapping.  “Thank you for your love and support throughout all of this. In the days to come let’s keep fighting and let’s keep winning.”

Cressy arrived with his mother, father and wife. He secured his early lead and was crowned the winner of the polls for Ward 20.

Cressy showed clear support for both runner-up mayoral candidate Olivia Chow and winner John Tory when he said

“Thank goodness we no longer have a mayor named Ford. After 4 years, it is time to heal this city.” Met by cheering and applause, Cressy ended his winning speech by saying “Now let’s start healing.”
