Toronto Police have arrested a man for allegedly selling fake vehicle insurance.
Police say the man sold fake insurance cards, known as pink slips, and collected monthly installment cash payments from victims. However, he is not a licensed insurance broker and he does not work with any company.
Police believe there are many victims operating their cars unaware that they are uninsured.
On Oct. 28, investigators from Financial Crimes Unit conducted three separate search warrants at Berry Road and Stephen Drive, Finch Avenue West and Dufferin Street, and Finch Avenue West and Norfinch Drive.
Alexandr Chertin, 73, of Toronto, was arrested and charged with two counts of Defrauding the Public Over $5,000, two counts of Fraud Over $5,000, and two counts of Uttering a Forged Document.
