TTC customer charter promises decreased delays

Also introduces smartphone family pass during Pan Am games

The TTC released its 2015 Customer Charter on Friday, promising a five per cent decrease in delays over 2015. The promise is part of a five-year plan to decrease delays by half.

TTC Spokesperson Milly Bernal outlined the methods in decreasing delays as several minor things.

Two more subway trains will be put into line one and two during rush hours to increase service. The change is expected to be put in place by June.

In addition, track maintenance studies are continually being done to research new ways to cut delays.

One of the largest causes of delays are track fires caused by debris, which often result in delays as long as 20 minutes. More paper catchers are being implemented in hopes of eliminating fire causing debris.

Other promises from the Charter include:

  • Adding energy-efficient LED lighting in 74 subway trains by the end of the year
  • Implementing a made for smartphone family pass pilot project during the Pan Am Games
  • Presto will be rolling out to 10 subway stations by the end of the year, but no locations have been disclosed in addition the the previously announced Presto enabled streetcars.
  • Bike repair stands will be added to 10 yet undisclosed stations by the end September to encourage mixed mode commuting
  • Line 1 stations from St George to Bloor-Yonge will be completely Wi-Fi enabled by the end of march
  • Blue priority seating installed in 90 per cent of vehicles by the end of the year

The charter can be found in full on the TTC website.
