Hundreds of students came together on Tuesday to battle it out, using snow as their weapon.

A massive snowball fight went on for a few hours at the King’s College Circle at the University of Toronto.

Although temperatures were low, students made sure to dress appropriately for the event.

“The only things that got cold were my hands, because I kept removing my mittens to take pictures of the action,” first-year Humanities student Hilary Lo said.

The university’s students’ union set up a free hot chocolate stand.

Many students who participated felt the event was refreshing.

“It was a relief from the tests,” first-year math student Jimmy Ho said.

In this the organizers seem to have achieved their main goal.

“University is hard and we’re always thinking about the future and we forget how to be kids and just have fun,” one of the organizers, Madina Siddiqui, said. “We all threw snow at each other and we didn’t have to know each other to do it.”

The event was organized by Siddiqui and fellow student Frishta Bastangirls through Facebook under the title “U OF T CAMPUS WIDE SNOWBALL FIGHT.

“We invited our friends and people started inviting more people and it kept getting bigger,” Siddiqui said. “I honestly thought no one would show up but people were so excited to come.”

The organizers estimate close to 500 people attended the event, including students from Ryerson and York universities, George Brown College, and even a few professors. They hope to make this an annual event, and eventually break the world record for the biggest snowball fight.

Students who missed it will have another chance to get in on the fun at another snowball fight held on Feb. 13 at 3 p.m.
