Two in hospital after Scarborough crash

Vehicle slammed pole near Bellamy and Progress

A car crashed into a pole at Progress Avenue and Bellamy Road North Tuesday morning about 6 a.m. The vehicle was so severely damaged that a rescue team of 10 firefighters needed a full hour to remove the driver from the wreckage.

According to police, the male driver was left with severe but non-life-threatening injuries. The passenger suffered minor injuries.

Following the accident, police closed Progress Avenue between Production Drive and Bellamy Road North. It was reopened an hour and a half later, after the rescue and cleanup concluded.

The driver has since been released from hospital with only minor injuries remaining.

“The injuries are now minor,” said police media officer Clint Stibbe. “The cause of collision will not be released,”
