Man on probation wanted for theft

Suspect known to police sought by 22 Division after theft at liquor store

A 56-year-old man on probation is wanted for theft at the city’s west-end liquor store. The incident occurred a month ago at an LCBO store on Bloor Street. Another male has been arrested in the same offence.

Brian Downey was known to police nine years ago when he had a dispute with a cab driver over unpaid fare and uttered a bomb threat, police report.

Police were mobilized in riot gear to deal with that incident. Bloor was shut down from St. George street to Spadina Avenue in the altercation and firefighters resorted to spraying him with water cannons to neutralize the tear gas used against him when he wasn’t responding to police. Downey was also taken to hospital for decontamination.

Downey was then charged with threatening death and mischief and other charges relating to old warrants.

Downey is wanted now for theft under $5,000 and failing to comply with two counts of probation.
