BRAMPTON – Kyle Bochek scored the game winner and tallied an assist, to help the Tulsa Oilers defeat the Brampton Beast 6-2 in a one-sided affair at the Powerade Centre in Tuesday night’s ECHL action.

Bochek maintained the Oilers (24-23-1-3) offensive domination as he scored the game’s third goal just 2:40 into the second period, giving Tulsa the early 3-0 lead.

The Oilers’ centre began an onslaught of scoring in the second period, as Jon Booras, Adam Pleskash and Matthew Larke scored three minutes apart to extend Tulsa’s lead to 6-1 at the 9:15 mark of the second period.

Tulsa’s Pleskach opened the scoring at 14:55 of the first period with a beautiful finish on a tic-tac-toe play on the power play.

Tommy Mele, of the Oilers, scored at 17:27 of the first period on the power play, with a huge slap shot off the right circle to beat Beast goaltender Trevor Cann (9-15-2-0). The goal was Tulsa’s second on consecutive power plays, against a Beast penalty kill that has been hot of late.

Beast Justin Donati tallied at 3:03 into the second period on the power play to cut the lead to 3-1, seconds after the man-advantage began in the second period, ending Kevin Carr’s shutout streak at 83:03.

Bobby Hughes of the Beast (15-31-2-0) replied at 10:21 of the second period, also on the power play, to shrink Tulsa’s lead to 6-2. The goal would be Brampton’s last of the night, as they were unable to forge a comeback.

Brampton was looking to erase the memory of Monday afternoon’s shut out loss to the Oilers. Tulsa however, created a nightmare for Brampton, as the Oilers offence blew out the Beast.

“We got to compete, we have to get back to keeping things simple,” said captain Calin Wild about the message in the room after the loss.

Cann, Brampton’s starting goalie, entered the game coming off a 5-0 shutout win versus the Rapid City Rush last Friday night. The Beast goaltender was pulled at 9:15 of the second for Grant Rollheiser (6-16-0-0), after allowing six goals on 23 shots.

“We have to respect that we have two goalies in the back end that work so hard for us all year and we have to play for them,” Wild said, coming to the defence of his goaltender after the loss.

The Beast had the opportunity to exact revenge on Tulsa goaltender Carr who shut them out on Monday afternoon in the first of the back-to-back games. Although other than two power-play goals, the Oilers goalie had a relatively comfortable night.

Carr (20-13-1-2) picked up where he left off making 24 saves in the win. Tulsa’s starter was able to hold off the early attack of the Beast and was a stabilizing figure for the Oilers throughout the game.

The mini-series with Tulsa was one to forget as the Beast only scored twice in the two games at home, while allowing 10 goals. Brampton’s next game begins a three-game home series with the Quad City Mallards.

NOTES: Tulsa handed the Beast their first shutout on home ice in franchise history Monday afternoon. … Brampton is winless in the season series versus the Oilers with an (0-6-0-0) mark. … The Beast inactives for Tuesday night’s game were Phil Oreskovic, Dustin Ekelman, Tyler Donati, Jason Dale, Elgin Reid, Antoine Corbin, and Jason Pitton was game-time decision scratch. … Brampton’s penalty kill had not allowed a goal in five straight games until Tuesday night.
