The search to replace Jian Ghomeshi is over, and there’s a new Q host in town. Hip hop artist Shadrach Kabango, better known as Shad, is that new host and he has a promising career ahead of him.

“Joining the Q team is an honour,” Shad said late Tuesday on the CBC website . “My mission in music has always been to make a unique and positive contribution to culture and to people’s lives. This is an exciting opportunity to pursue that same mission in a new way, alongside a brilliant, passionate team.”

Shad, 32, has multiple Juno nominations under his belt and has a wide following in both Canada and America. He was born in Kenya, but raised in London, Ont. He’s been releasing records since 2005, and won an award for Rap Recording on the Year in 2011.

The radio show has been searching for a new host since the Jian Ghomeshi scandal. Ghomeshi’s relationship with the CBC ended on Oct. 26

Since then, the CBC has been vigilant in their quest for some raw talent.

“We were looking for someone who is an original thinker, curious and emotionally intelligent,” said Cindy Witten, executive director of CBC Radio Talk, in a report posted late Tuesday on the CBC website.
