One waterfront design for public viewing.

The city revealed five design proposals for the revitalization of the Toronto waterfront to the community yesterday.

The proposals are on display for public feedback at Toronto City Hall during regular business hours until March 20.

The public is able to comment about each proposal to help create the final approach for the Jack Layton Ferry Terminal and Harbour Square Park, said Christopher Glaisek, Vice-president of Planning and Design for Waterfront Toronto, in a press release from the organization.

The Innovative Design Competition began in November and five finalists were chosen from 33 qualifying submissions.

The finalist design teams are a mix of International and Canadian firms:

  • Clement Blanchet Architecture(Paris) with Batlle I Roig (Barcelona), RVTR (Toronto) and Scott Torrance Landscape Architect Inc. (Toronto).
  • Diller Scofidio + Renfro(New York City), architectsAlliance (Toronto) and Hood Design (Oakland).
  • KPMB Architects (Toronto), West 8(Rotterdam) and Greenberg Consultants (Toronto).
  • Quadrangle Architects (Toronto), aLL Design (London) and Janet Rosenberg & Studio (Toronto).
  • Stoss Landscape Urbanism(Boston), nARCHITECTS (New York City) and ZAS Architects(Toronto).

The goal of the design competition is to come up with a master plan to revitalize and restore the waterfront creating a welcoming gateway to the Toronto Islands.

Once the public comment period closes, a summary of the results are to be presented to design professionals and members of the public to help in their consideration of the winning team.

The public can also provide feedback online. An online exhibition has been created by the city with a survey for public comments, closing at midnight on March 20.
