Police to assist TTC in investigation of Union station brawl

Press conference to be held today

Police Chief Bill Blair has granted TTC CEO Andy Byford’s request to review a brawl at Union Stationand is to hold a press conference about the incident this morning at 11:30 a.m.

According to the TTC, the confrontation on Jan. 29 was between two men and two transit enforcement officers on the concourse level of Union Station shortly after a Toronto Maple Leafs game.

While the nature of the provocation remains unknown, the TTC claims it did not involve a fare. The fight was caught on video, which shows both constables using non-lethal force on both men.

Police were called and two men were charged with assaulting the constables. A TTC statement said that “given the seriousness of the matter, the TTC has requested the police to independently review the incident.”

The commission is to provide its own footage of the skirmish.

No public complaints have been filed concerning the brawl.

Blair has appointed Toronto Police’s Professional Standards Unit to conduct the investigation.
