York University strike almost over

Tentative agreement reached, union says

In the latest development in the York University strike, CUPE 3903 announced late Sunday afternoon that the bargaining team for units 1 and 3 has come to a tentative agreement with the university. The units represent 2,700 teaching assistants and graduate assistants who have been on strike since March 2.

The ratification vote will take place today from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Rexall Centre.

York University released a statement saying that members should note the strike is still underway and picketing at all gates will proceed as planned today.

TTC bus routes have been diverted from their original routes into campus, dropping students farther away as to avoid any commotion and traffic.

“I now have to leave 30 minutes earlier just to walk from where the bus drops me off to get to class on time,” said Danka Hrsum, a health studies student at York.
