Union Station improvements force relocation of GO train platforms

Riders advised to check ahead before heading to train platform

Revitalization efforts at Union Station will disrupt the routine for all train passengers starting today.

GO Transit will be changing the platform assignments for all trains departing from Union Station.

“We are undertaking revitalization efforts at the station to provide a smoother and safer customer experience,” Mark Ostler, media relations for Metrolinx, said.  “GO Transit wants to minimize inconvenience to customers and make these platform changes as painless as possible.”

To make riders aware of the changes, Metrolinx has said they have tried to communicate the message to commuters including social media updates, newspaper advertisements and customer handouts.

Closed since July 2013, platforms three and four at the north side of Union Station are to be reopened today.

Platforms 20 and 21 are now closed for construction and are set to reopen in November.

“Although GO Transit has tried to create a standard train schedule to be used during this phase, changes to platform allotment can occur at any time,” Ostler said.

Riders are advised to check the departure board before boarding the train.

The Union Station revitalization project is scheduled to be finished by summer of 2017.
