GO Transit service was shut down on a stretch of the Lakeshore West line for more than four hours Wednesday evening after a suspicious package was found on the tracks at the Exhibition GO station.
The suspended service caused major delays at Union Station. Thousands of commuters were unable to board their trains during rush hour.
Additional trains used to handle rush hour traffic are stored at the Willowbrook yard in Etobicoke. The service suspension, stretched from Exhibition to Long Branch, providing no alternate route for the trains to reach their destination.
The police bomb squad was called in and after successful detonation it still remains unclear what the package contained or if it posed any risk.
