Chrystia Freeland takes a breath because her race is almost over.
The Gardener Museum is the location for her victory party. The festivities take place on the third floor at 9:30 p.m. There’s an open bar, and a giant TV for guests and volunteers to watch the election unfold. Taps flow as excitement builds, the guests here think Freeland is a sure win.
Freeland, 47, was a MPP for Toronto Centre from 2013 to 2015 when she opted to run for the newly adjusted University-Rosedale riding as a Liberal candidate. She’s been advocating for votes by canvasing with volunteers and interacting with them via social media.
#RealChange is the hashtag the Liberal Party is using to campaign and voters hope that party leader Justin Trudeau will stick with that pledge.
The polls are set to close at 9:30 p.m. in which all votes will be counted. The voting polls were open on Thanksgiving weekend, with 3.6 million ballots cast, a 71.4 per cent inflation rate in votes from the last federal election in 2011.
Freeland is a firm supporter in Trudeau’s ideals for Canada, among them is the promise to revitalize the middle class. He intends to do that by increasing taxes for the 1 per cent who are making more than $200,000 annually.
CBC has called the election for Trudeau, meaning Freeland may have picked the ideal candidate for Prime Minister.
Similarly it looks like supporters picked the right MP as Global News has called the riding for Freeland over NDP candidate Jennifer Hollett.
As Freeland releases her breath, and the third floor of the Gardener Museum fills with red and white, it’s obvious that she is the star of the show.
