Defeated Sitsabaiesan thankful for past five years

Tears flow in Scarborough North as NDP incumbent loses to Liberal's Chen

It was a bittersweet feeling for NDP MP Rathika Sitsabaiesan when she entered the Kasni Event Venue in Scarborough at Finch Avenue East and Tapscott Road packed with volunteers and supporters last night.

Sitsabaiesan went to the mic and thanked her team for their hard work and supporting her in the last five years. As she spoke, a couple of supporters began shedding their tears. Sitsabaiesan congratulated Liberal candidate Shaun Chen for becoming the new MP of Scarborough North.

She says  this election in Scarborough North is important because Scarborough has been traditionally a community that’s just left out.

“Finally, we had a strong member of parliament who is fighting for our community, fighting for the young people in this community, fighting for everybody to get ahead,” she said.

Sitsabaiesan says that the other candidate in the Scarborough North riding had a strong campaign.

“I say thank you to all of them for keeping it clean and a friendly campaign,” she said.
