Outgoing finance minister Joe Oliver has lost the election for the Eglinton-Lawrence riding, falling to Liberal Marco Mendicino, but he was still able to lift the spirits of his supporters last night.

Although the mood during his party at the Toronto Curling Club was somber when Oliver entered the building, it quickly became more positive by the end of his speech.

“I believe that the Conservative government, under our prime minister, has accomplished a great deal for our country,” Oliver said to applause.

“Let’s celebrate what we have accomplished as well as the effort put in to get even more done,” Oliver said. “Thank you so much again for your support, and let’s just relax and enjoy ourselves.”

At the end of his speech the audience applauded by chanting his name repeatedly.
