Movember Canada adds new way to fund raise for men’s health

physical activity promoted, alongside moustache growing

It’s time to MOVE to the washrooms and shave.

It is the first day of November on Sunday, which also means it is the first day of Movember.

During Movember people usually grow their moustaches throughout the month of November to raise awareness and funds for men’s health. As part of the challenge, participants must clean shave on Nov. 1 and then begin growing their moustaches for the next 30 days.

However, this year there is a new way for people to get involved and support the cause.

“This year we actually added physical inactivity as one of our areas of focus so this year when you go on Movember.com you can sign up to MOVE, which is a new way that men and women can participate,” said Tyler Small, a representative from Movember Canada. “The idea is that it’s a 30-day fitness challenge to get more active and also raise funds and awareness for men’s health.”

According to Small, this new change was added to allow more females to be able to participate during Movember and because of the powerful capabilities of exercise. It will also give men who have been participating in the traditional way something new to do.

“We want the men to continue growing the moustaches but also commit to move.” The best thing you can do for physical and mental health is exercise, it’s the best preventative medicine you can have,” Small said. “For the girls or Mo Sistas that we have they can sign up and commit to MOVE and really challenge the men in their lives to get physically active too.”

Based on the social media feedback the new challenge seems likely to become as popular as growing moustaches.
