OUA men’s hockey: Windsor beats struggling RMC, Mustangs fall for first time

Tyson Ness scored two goals as the Windsor Lancers defeated the Royal Military College Paladins 7-3 on Friday night in Kingston.

Dylan Denomme, Blake Blondeel, Eric Noel, Mike Christou, and Kyle Hope provided the other offence for the Lancers (5-1-1).

Deric Boudreau, Bennett Huber, and Brett Pinder replied for RMC (1-6-1).

In net for the Lancers, Michael Doan made 30 saves.

RMC starting goalie Matthew Beirnes left the game after the second having given up six goals on 28 shots. Simon-Pier Chamberland made nine saves in the third.

Lakehead 1 McGill 5

David Rose had two goals and an assist as the McGill Redmen defeated the Lakehead Thunderwolves 5-1 in Montreal.

Mathieu Pompei also scored two, while Dominic Talbot-Tassi had a goal and an assist for the Redmen (6-1).

Jake Wright was the lone goal scorer for the Thunderwolves (0-5).

Jacob Gervais-Chouinard made 27 saves for McGill, Devin Green made 31 for Lakehead.

In other weekend action:

Waterloo 1 UQTR 6

Charles-David Beaudion scored two goals as the Universite du Quebec a Trois Rivieres Patriotes defeated the Waterloo Warriors 6-1 in Trois Rivieres.

Guillaume Asselin (2), Jeremy Beaudry, and Alexandre Leclerc capped the scoring for UQTR (5-1). Beaudry, Pierre-Olivier Morin, and Pierre-Maxime Poudrier had two assist games.

Mitch Elliot replied for Waterloo (4-3).

UQTR goalie Sebastien Auger made 30 saves, while Chris Hurry made 33 for the Warriors.

UOIT 3 Carleton 1

Mike Robinson and James Woodcroft had two-point games as the University of Ontario Institute of Technology Ridgebacks defeated the Carleton Ravens 3-1 in Ottawa.

Robinson and Woodcroft scored and assisted on each other’s goals. Adam Campagnolo provided the final tally for the Ridgebacks (4-3).

Ryan Van Stralen scored for the Ravens (4-2).

UOIT goalie Brandon O’Neill made 29 saves, while Francis Dupuis made 21 for Carleton.

Toronto 1 Brock 4

Penalties proved costly for the University of Toronto Varsity Blues as they fell to the Brock Badgers 4-1.

Skylar Pacheco, Mitch Nardi, and Jake Cardwell scored power play goals for the Badgers (3-3-1). Josh Timpano added an even strength marker.

Patrick Marsh got U. of T. (2-3-1) on the board.

Clint Windsor made 23 saves for Brock, while Michael Nishi made 31 for the Varsity Blues.

Laurier 3 Concordia 6

Dany Potvin had two goals and two assists as the Concordia Stingers defeated the Laurier Golden Hawks 6-3.

Alexandros Soumakis, Philippe Hudon, Olivier Hinse, and Jessyko Bernard scored the other goals for the Stingers (3-3-1).
Trevor Sauder, Mitch Wright, and Matt Dupont gave the Golden Hawks (2-4) a three-goal lead only six minutes into the game.

After giving up three goals on six shots, Concordia pulled Miguel Sullivan just 7:23 into the game. Robin Billingham came in and made 19 saves.

Vinny Merante made 24 saves for Laurier.

York 4 Ryerson 6

Keevin Cutting scored a pair of power play goals as the Ryerson Rams defeated the York Lions 6-4.

Michael Fine, Joel Wigle (2), and Lucas Froese added even strength markers. Fine, Erick DeLaurentis, and Alex Basso also netted two assists for the Rams (4-2).

Trevor Petersen and Greg Milner both scored two for the Lions (4-1-1).

Ryerson goaltender Troy Passingham made 39 saves, while Chris Perugini made 36 for York.

Western 4 Laurentian 6

A multi-goal game from three players led the Laurentian Voyageurs to a 6-4 win over the Western Mustangs.

Brent Pedersen, Dylan Fitze, and Nick Esposto each scored a pair for the Voyageurs (2-4).

Trent Ouellette (2), Cole Benson, and Cobbold Spencer opened the scoring for the Mustangs (5-1).

Laurentian goalie Alain Valiquette made 28 saves, while Peter Delmas made 16 for Western.

Guelph 3 Nipissing 2

Seth Swenson scored the overtime winner as the Guelph Gryphons defeated the Nipissing Lakers 3-2.

Swenson finished the game with three points, two goals and an assist. Sean Robertson also scored for the Gryphons (2-4).

Erik Robichaud and Colin Campbell replied for the Lakers (2-2-3).

Guelph goalie Andrew D’Agostini made 30 saves, and Domenic Graham made 30 for Nipissing.

Waterloo 4 Concordia 1

Colin Behenna had two goals and two assists as the Waterloo Warriors defeated the Concordia Stingers 4-1 on Saturday.

Andrew Smith also scored a pair and added an assist to cap the offence for the Warriors (4-4).

Anthony Cortese netted the lone marker for the Stingers (3-4-1).

Waterloo goalie Chris Hurry made 21 saves, while Robin Billingham made 24.

Laurier 4 UQTR 7

Guillaume Asselin had his second two-goal game in as many nights as the UQTR Patriotes defeated the Laurier Golden Hawks 7-4.

Guillaume Belanger, Anthony Verret, Marc-Olivier Mimar, and Tommy Giroux scored the other goals for UQTR (6-1-1).

Derek Schoenmakers had a hat trick and Jordan Delaurier scored for the Golden Hawks (2-5).

UQTR goalie Sebastien Auger made 16 saves.

Colin Furlong started in net for Laurier, but was pulled after giving up 3 goals on 11 shots in the first period. Vinny Merante made 22 saves in relief.

Lakehead 3 McGill 8

Mathieu Pompei recorded his first hat trick of the season as the McGill Redmen defeated the Lakehead Thunderwolves 8-3.

David Rose, Dominic Talbot-Tassi, Alexandre Chenevert, Samuel Labrecque, and Frederic Gamelin added to the rout for the Redmen (7-1), who maintain first place in the OUA East.

Cody Alcock (2), and Kelin Ainsworth responded for the Thunderwolves (0-6), Ainsworth’s goal was a short-handed marker.

Jacob Gervais-Chouinard made 22 saves, while Jeff Bosch made 35 for Lakehead.

Queen’s 3 Carleton 0

Kevin Bailie made 38 saves as the Queen’s Gaels defeated the Carleton Ravens 3-0.

Darcy Greenaway, Patrick Downe, and Shawn Boudreau provided the offence for the Gaels (5-1). Downe and Greenaway also recorded assists along with Spencer Abraham and Patrick McGillis.

In net for the Ravens (4-3), Patrick Kileen made 22 saves.

Western 5 Nipissing 1

Andrew Goldberg scored two goals as the Western Mustangs defeated the Nipissing Lakers 5-1.

Matt Marantz had a three-point game, recording a goal and two assists, while David Corrente had tow helpers for the Mustangs (6-1). Cole Benson and Teskey also scored goals for Western.

Joel Herbert got the Lakers (2-3-3) on the board in the third.

In net for the Mustangs, Greg Dodds made 26 saves.

Domenic Graham was pulled after 40 minutes, giving up five goals on 22 shots for Nipissing. Kirk Rafuse came in for the third and stopped the seven shots he faced.

Windsor 6 RMC 2

Brennan Feasey recorded a hat trick as the Windsor Lancers defeated the RMC Paladins 6-2.

Tyson Ness, Kenny Bradford, and Paul Bezzo also scored for the Lancers (6-1-1)., who took over first place in the OUA West.

Bennett Huber scored both goals for RMC (1-7-1), who have lost their last eight games.

Windsor goalie Blake Richard made 31 saves, while Matthew Beirnes made 34 for RMC.

Toronto 2 York 4

Justin Larson scored the game winner with five minutes left in third as the York Lions defeated the University of Toronto Varsity Blues 4-2.

Derek Sheppard, and Greg Milner each recorded a goal and two assists, while Trevor Petersen added an empty netter to secure the win for the Lions (4-1-1).

Dean Klomp, and Charlie Connell replied for the Varsity Blues (2-4-1), who have now lost three in a row.

York goalie Chris Perugini made 29 saves, while Brett Willows made 31 for U. of T.

Ryerson 5 Brock 4

Joel Wigle scored the overtime winner as the Ryerson Rams defeated the Brock Badgers 5-4.

Down by three in the third, Jason Kelly netted a pair of goals, and Michael Fine added his second of the game after opening the scoring in the second. Kelly also picked up an assist on the winner for the Rams (5-2).

Ryan Purvis, Chris Maniccia, Josh Timpano, and Adam Lloyd replied for the Badgers (3-3-2).

Ryerson goalie Taylor Dupuis made 28 saves, while Clint Windsor made 45 for Brock.

Guelph 3 Laurentian 2

Seth Swenson had another two-goal performance as the Guelph Gryphons defeated the Laurentian Voyageurs 3-2.

Cody Thompson had the other goal, and Scott Simmonds recorded two assists for the Gryphons (3-4).

Sebastien Leroux, and Brent Pedersen responded for the Voyageurs (2-5).

Guelph goalie Andrew D’Agostini made 38 saves, while Alain Valiquette made 29 for Laurentian.
