Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, John McCallum announced yesterday he is creating a cabinet ad hoc committee to reinforce the government’s promise on refugees.
During the election campaign, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced his government would bring 25,000 Syrian refugees into Canada by the end of December 2015.
The committee is composed of nine cabinet ministers and is chaired by Minister of Health Jane Philpott.
“We have a responsibility to significantly expand our refugee targets and give more victims of war a safe haven in Canada,” McCallum said in a press release.
In addition to their promise of bringing 25,000 Syrian refugees into Canada, the government has also promised to restore the health benefits to refugees, invest an additional $100 million into refugee process and provide another $100 million to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
The committee will have its first meeting Nov. 10.
These refugees are not our problem. They should be sent to oil rich, Arab nations. Our government budgets cannot afford to support these people. The Sovereign Wealth Fund of Saudi Arabia is worth over US$765 billion.
